Pineville PD reminds public of pet statutes, safety

Following recent events in Rapides Parish, the Pineville Police Department encourages the public to review Louisiana Revised Statute 14:102.1. It’s not just legal talk; it’s the foundation of what it means to be a responsible pet owner.

Violating the guidelines of this law could earn violators time in jail. Part of responsible pet ownership is providing pets with adequate care AND safety, especially in the Louisiana heat.

PPD offered a quick checklist of ways to avoid jail time and provide pets with good care:

  • Never leave an animal in a vehicle, especially in the summer.
  • Provide proper food and clean water.
  • Ensure adequate shelter, especially in inclement weather.
  • Keep up with veterinary care.

If anyone has questions about animal laws or needs guidance for pet care, the amazing folks at the City of Pineville Animal Shelter are here to help. Give them a call at 318-449-5674.
