The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of yet another scam being perpetrated against the citizens which is an oldie but a goody: The Missed Jury Duty Scam.
According to the initial information, the potential victim is called, and the caller identifies themselves as a Deputy Jason Kessler. They go on to say that they have been commissioned by a federal judge to contact the target and tell the target that they now have a warrant for their arrest for failure to appear for jury duty. They use very good phrases to intimidate and create fear in the potential victim.
Of course, this is a SCAM. First, RPSO does not serve Federal Jury Duty summons. Also, being on a jury is a civic duty that everyone should embrace. However, law enforcement does not put people in jail for missing jury duty. Furthermore, people cannot pay a fee to get out of a warrant for arrest.
Again, RPSO urges everyone to be very skeptical of ANYONE calling and attempting to get money, no matter what the reason.
