LCU upsets No. 9 LSUA in women’s tennis surprise

The Louisiana Christian women’s tennis program pulled a stunner in the regular season finale on Thursday, roaring back from a 3-1 deficit to score its highest ranked win in school history, 4-3 in the Red River Rivalry over No. 9 LSU Alexandria.

The all-time series could not have been more lopsided in favor of the visitors entering the day as LSUA had never ceded a single point in six previous meetings (50-0).

LCU (10-9 overall, 3-2 Red River Athletic Conference) has been receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll. Ninth-ranked LSUA slipped to 7-4 overall, 3-1 in the RRAC.

The upset was sprung at LCU’s Richard L. Crowell Tennis Center. It was the first Wildcats win in the tennis compartment of the Red River Rivalry in its recorded history since 2007-08. The Generals won last year’s match 7-0.

LCU’s Alexandra Cedeno secured the comeback by capturing clincher in the fourth singles flight, erasing a first set 6-4 defeat to snag the final two sets 6-3, 6-2.
