The Pineville Police Department recently shared a reminder with the public that shopping carts—aka buggies or whatever you call them – belong at the store.
Recently, PPD’s Community Affairs Division has been working hard to return abandoned carts to local businesses, only to see more pop up days later. Transportation can be tricky, but taking a store’s shopping cart off their property is actually theft. These shopping carts are several hundred dollars each and businesses take a financial hit when they lose them.
Need help getting groceries home? Here are some alternatives:
- Folding or collapsible shopping carts – affordable, reusable, and won’t get people in trouble.
- Delivery services – many local stores offer delivery straight to a customer’s door.
- Rideshare or carpool options – a quick trip with a friend beats pushing a buggy down the road.
If the problem continues, PPD will begin enforcing the law. Let’s work together to keep the city clean and businesses thriving. Help spread the word—leave the buggies where they belong.
