Goff spurs LCU women’s winning rally, but cold-shooting men bow at Texarkana

Princis Goff matched Texas A&M-Texarkana by herself in the fourth quarter Saturday, leading the Louisiana Christian women’s basketball squad from a 16-point deficit to a 74-71 Red River Athletic Conference road win.

The Wildcats trailed for all but the last three minutes, falling behind by 16 midway through the third period, but Goff scored 13 points in the final 10 minutes as LCU posted a 30-13 advantage in the fourth quarter to win.

Goff – 13th in the NAIA ranks in scoring – poured in 31, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked four shots, made four assists and three steals for Louisiana Christian (8-14, 8-12 Red River). Deja Tanks had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Kylie Leblanc added 11 points for the Wildcats.

Texas A&M-Texarkana (7-18, 7-14) got 22 points from Kayla Williams but she fouled out in the closing minutes.

TAMUT MEN 73, LCU 59:  Louisiana Christian (11-13, 10-10) never led, couldn’t get much going inside the 3-point arc and fell behind 38-21 at halftime.

Texas A&M-Texarkana (16-8, 14-7 Red River) weathered 11 3-point baskets by the visitors, who hit 11-26 from distance but only 7-30 inside the arc. They connected on 32 percent overall.

Bryce Weinmunson spearheaded the Wildcats’ attack on the perimeter, draining a personal-high five treys in eight attempts as he posted 17 points. Kevin Wiltz hit a trio of 3-pointers and posted 11 points, equalled by Jon’Quarius McGhee, while Devin Carter scored 10.

The next road trip for LCU will be a doozy, over 700 miles west across the plans of Texas to Hobbs, New Mexico where LCU will meet the University of the Southwest in a doubleheader beginning with the women’s matchup at 5:30 Thursday evening.
