Rapides Parish DA’s office closes two cases with convictions

The Rapides Parish District Attorney’s office closed two cases this week with successful convictions. One case has already resulted in a sentence; the other conviction won’t receive sentencing until January of 2025. 

Jamie C. Barras was charged with Intent to Distribute CDS II. Barras was found guilty and sentenced to 6 years in prison. This case was prosecuted by ADA Hazel Coleman-Chavis.

In an update to what had been an ongoing case, a verdict has been reached in the State vs. Kelvin Raymond Harris case. A unanimous jury vote found Harris guilty as charged of Armed Robbery. He will be sentenced on Jan. 27, 2025. The case was prosecuted by ADAs Kenneth Doggett, June Foster, and Lea Hall.
