Brame Middle School Homecoming Parade

Brame Middle School students lined up on Oct. 1 for their annual homecoming parade.

Football players led the parade, followed by homecoming court members waving from convertibles, trucks, and SUVs with 8th grade Queen candidate Abrielle King ending the procession.

In between were performances by the band, cheerleaders, and dance line.

Following the parade was a very spirited pep rally! In fact, a spirit competition earned the 7th graders FREE DRESS day on Monday.

Watching the pep rally from the blue and yellow bleachers was an adventure in time travel for me. I’d once sat in the same bleachers (well the old wooden ones at least) and watched teachers pump us up with school spirit over forty years ago.

As the cheerleaders performed and one of the tiniest flyers was flipped through the air I remembered my days as a cheer mom, when my oldest daughter Callie (always the smallest on each squad) flew through the air.

I was brought to the present when dancers performed to I Gotta Feeling by the Black-Eyed Peas, the most requested song on my playlist when the grandkids get in the car.

Talk about snap you back to reality!

While I wish I was back in junior high sometimes, I’d even settle for being young enough to slide across the floor on air mattresses with the teacher team who handily beat the three teams from all three grades.

They did NOT have a 55-year old grandma on their team!

The pep rally ended with a dance-off that got the entire crowd on their feet. It was a great afternoon for the Brame Gators, activities designed to build school community and reward students for good behavior.

It was also a great day to teach students the lesson that together we are so much more!
