Winning a showdown between top 10 teams doesn’t guarantee a big jump in the high school football state rankings compiled by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
ASH was impressive enough in one of those matchups Friday night that the Trojans zoomed up from 10th to No. 6 in the Week 4 Class 5A top 10 announced Monday.
A 45-27 victory over then-No. 7 Destrehan was more impressive than the final score. ASH led 35-13 at halftime and weathered a rally that cut the spread to eight points before a clinching scoring drive by the Trojans in the waning minutes.
The climb in the ratings was the biggest move up by any ranked team in any classification.
ASH is the only Rapides Parish team getting votes in the LSWA’s polls.
Twelve LSWA members who cover high school football around the state vote weekly on the Top 10s in each classification.
