Coincidence puts former “teammates” back in the Rapides legal arena at the same time.
Tyrin Boyd, now 32, and Charick Rachal, 33, weren’t buds on the gridiron or the hardwood; their association was the Triple M Murder Team.
Eight years ago a dozen or so “team” members were accused of a reign of terror over their proclaimed turf.
The six-year scourge of murder, threats, intimidation, dealing and racketeering began with a drive-by shooting of five persons at a restaurant in December 2011, enduring until a consortium of law enforcement and judicial personnel pinned charges on them.
Shortly afterward, one web site described the city as a “poverty-stricken, gang-infested pit of hopelessness,” prompting the expected response from officials.
Eight years after pleading guilty to narcotics charges, Boyd, one of several with that last name who were “team” members, and Rachal are back.
Boyd was jailed last week on several felony counts, including possession and handling of a machine gun. His bail is $162,500.
He’s been charged with multiple contempt counts in arrests in 2020, 2021 and 2023.
Meanwhile Rachal is scheduled for jury trial Monday on a manslaughter charge. He is accused of killing a man on Rapides Avenue near Ball Powell in August 2022.
Rachal also pleaded guilty in September 2016, to two counts of dealing, and got an 8-year sentence.
Subsequently, he has shuttled back and forth between state custody, parole, arrests and repeat, released by DOC mid-August this year.
His scheduled trial is one of nine on Judge Patricia Koch’s docket Monday. Several others are set for other days in the week.
Chances of any happening are statistically very low.
