Tragic loss: 12-year-old girl dies in weekend shooting, gofundme account established

By JIM BUTLER

Hope Alexandria likely got up Saturday morning, like most Rapides students, looking forward to a three-day weekend due to a teacher development holiday Monday.

When classes resume today Hope, 12, will not be in her seat. She was shot and killed in her Cypress Street home at mid-morning Saturday.

Another person, reportedly her father, was also shot, and taken to a hospital.

No suspect had been charged as of Monday evening.

Police, as is customary, have released nothing in the way of additional information.

Claims that the shootings were drive-by cannot be confirmed.

And speculation that the incident was in some manner related to a homicide a few houses away the day before is just that at this point.

The suspect in that case turned himself in about three hours after Hope was shot.

An account to assist Hope’s family has been established at gofundme.com.
