Schools superintendent Powell getting graded this month

Superintendent Jeff Powell, RPSB

By JIM BUTLER

School Board members will turn evaluations of Supt. Jeff Powell’s job performance into the Executive Committee by month’s end.

The 35-item review has both objective and subjective components, including six that are required elements under Powell’s contract.

Board members are asked to rate the superintendent as highly effective, effective proficient, effective emerging or unsatisfactory.

Any unsatisfactory rating requires written supporting comment.

The categories – leadership, personnel, finances, school/staff and community relations, professional growth and ethics, school and student performance.

The Executive Committee will tally the nine members’ responses, analyze them and come to the overall rating.

The evaluation will be reviewed with Powell during an executive session in August.

Powell has been superintendent since July 2019, his initial contract renewed in December 2021, effective through the last day of this year.
