Mi Tio Mexican Grill, in the old Fat Pat’s location at the corner of Jackson St. and Texas St. in Alexandria, Louisiana offers some of the best authentic flavors of Mexico. The restaurant has a distinct and festive atmosphere that feels more upper scale than the typical Mexican restaurant. According to its slogan, “… we take pride in crafting dishes that showcase the richness and diversity of our heritage…”  Mi Tio Mexican Grill does not disappoint!

Upon arrival to the Grill, we were seated by a very friendly hostess who escorted us to our table at once.  The server brought us chips, salsa and a wonderful bean dip to enjoy while we browsed the menu.  The chips were crisp and seasoned just perfectly.  The salsa was just the right mix of “heat” and flavor and was not overloaded with cilantro.  The bean dip – well, this was the highlight of the meal.  In fact, we had a second serving of the dip with a second basket of chips.   You don’t want to miss this delight!

After taking in all the items Mi Tio Mexican had to offer, my wife selected a Taco Salad. While the menu indicates that the salad consisted of a flour tortilla taco shell bowl filled with ground beef, the waiter informed us that she could choose chicken if she preferred, which she did.  The salad came with a good portion of meat, refried beans, chili, lettuce, black olives, green onions, tomatoes, carrots, shredded cheese, sour cream and guacamole! – $13.99

I chose the Grilled Chicken Breast comprised of a chicken breast topped with white queso, served with rice and a side salad. The chicken was seasoned just right and was very tender.  The rice and salad were just as expected – $17.99

Although the music was just a tad loud, the remodeled atmosphere was pleasant, the service was top-notch and the total price was $35.00 plus tip.
