LCU will introduce new football coach this morning at 11

The new head coach of the Louisiana Christian University football program will be introduced today at 11 on campus.

The event is free to attend and open to students, faculty, staff, and the public, inside Guinn Auditorium on the Louisiana Christian campus.

The auditorium is located between the Martin Performing Arts Center and the Richard W. Norton Library and is across from the main administrative building on campus, Alexandria Hall.

At the conclusion of the 11 a.m. press conference, all are invited to partake in a meet-and-greet with the new man in charge of the Wildcats’ program while the football team and assistant coaches will also be in attendance for conversations.

The position opened Monday when Drew Maddox resigned following four seasons to accept an assistant coaching position at Southeast Missouri State, an NCAA Division I FCS program. The Wildcats were 9-2 last fall, won their first Sooner Athletic Conference championship and earned their first NAIA postseason invitation with the league’s automatic berth.

With a hire made shortly after Maddox announced his departure Monday, speculation centered on a promotion of a current staff member. However, former LCU quarterback Ben McLaughlin, head coach for the past two seasons at Buckeye High after serving as offensive coordinator at Alexandria Senior High, has been cited by Jimmy Watson of Gannett Louisiana as the new coach.

McLaughlin was on the LCU coaching staff immediately after his record-breaking playing career concluded in 2010. He also coached at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M as an offensive coordinator on the college level before his time at ASH and Buckeye.
