Sheriff’s Office warns residents of warrant scam

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office received calls again in reference to people identifying themselves as an RPSO deputy telling the intended victim there are warrants for their arrest for failure to pay fines, failure to show up for jury duty, failure to pay court fees or failure to appear. The name they are using is DEPUTY CHAD BAXTER with BONDS AND FINES.

These scammers are targeting person who may owe court costs or fees for a conviction they have received. They will call the employer and even after hours so information cannot be verified.

Of course, this is a scam. As we have said before, never give anyone any personal information or any credit card information over the phone if you did not initiate the call.

ANYTIME ANYONE CALLS YOU SOLICITING MONEY OVER THE PHONE THROUGH PRE-PAID MONEY CARDS, IT IS A SCAM!

If you are told you have a warrant, you are welcome to call 318-473-6700 and check. In law-enforcement, we do not call people to let them know we are looking for them.

Another suggestion that is working well is if the phone number is not in your contact list, do not answer it. If it is legitimate they will leave you a voicemail. Most scammers are spoofing the numbers they are calling from.
