Out of necessity, authorities keeping up with Jones

By JIM BUTLER

Aaron Jones may be not guilty of current charges but an innocent he is not.

Jones, 26, of Alexandria was booked Monday afternoon on four counts of attempted second-degree murder, his third shooting charge in five years, and two of possession with intention to sell or distribute.

His bond was set at $2,000,000. Information regarding circumstances of his case was not immediately available.

A year ago, Jones was accused of Murder 2 in the shooting death of Matthew Leary Jr., 20, of Bunkie, killed at a Cheneyville apartment complex.

Bond in that case, which also included 12 counts of possession with intent, obstruction and firearm possession by a convicted felon, was almost $1.1 million.

Records show he left the parish lockup on October 13.

Two other men, Quantavius Richards and Diamonte Swaizer, were also charged with murder.

Additionally, four women and another man were charged with felony accessory after fact and/or obstruction of justice after investigators tracked down persons alleged to have been involved in the shooting.

Jones was charged with attempted murder or non/negligent manslaughter and felony probation violation in June 2019. He was released from the lockup on December 2, perhaps to Dept. of Corrections custody.
