Wood, Ducote among incumbents re-elected

By JIM BUTLER

Sheriff Mark Wood and Assessor Rick Ducote won re-election by substantial margins in Saturday’s primary.

Wood defeated Kris Cloessner in a rematch of their 2019 contest, getting 58%, according to unofficial returns.

In winning his second term Wood used a well-financed campaign of TV, social media and direct mail advertising, along with numerous personal appearances.

Ducote’s successful bid term was much more subdued.

He defeated Josh Pace, who did almost no campaigning, with 57 percent of the vote.

The closest count of the night was in Police Jury District B, where incumbent Joe Bishop apparently defeated Randy Wiggins by three votes.

The unofficial count was 1,648 for Bishop, 1,645 for Wiggins. Results are not official until certified by election officials on Tuesday.

Incumbents Craig Smith, District C and Ollie Overton in District F, won new terms.

In District E Danny Bordelon, receiving 40 percent, and Travis Herrington, 32 percent, will be in the November 18 runoff for the seat being vacated by Rusty Wilder.

In District H Parrish Giles had 61 percent of the vote.
