Local woman’s ‘complicated’ relationship with Dauzart turned murderous

By JIM BUTLER

Brandy Hanks termed her relationship with Richard Dauzart complicated. It became fatal, investigators say.

Investigators say Dauzart shot and killed the 41-year-old Hanks in the wee hours of the morning of Sunday, Sept. 10.

He fled the Brown’s Bend Road dwelling they shared and was captured Tuesday at a hideout in Deville.

The alleged killer is charged with murder 2 and obstruction of justice by evidence tampering.

His rap sheet is indicative of a tumultuous life, with or without Hanks, who had his “R” tattooed on her arm.

At the time of the shooting Dauzart was on bond from a January arrest on several drug and firearms charges.

Hanks was charged with contempt of court at the same time.

Dauzart had been nabbed by a swat sweep of his residence. He was found attempting to evade capture under a trailer.

He allegedly had on site considerable meth, fentanyl, marijuana and Gabapentin, as well as an assault-style rifle.

Prior to that case Dauzart was most prominently in the news when in November 2019, on the first day of his trial on a kidnapping and attempted rape charge, a mistrial was declared when his attorney revealed existence of a video allegedly of sex between Dauzart and the alleged victim. Dauzart was cited for contempt when he failed to show for the court date.

Alleged violence is a recurring part of Dauzart’s record. It has often involved a female victim.

That record of alleged offenses in Rapides:

February 2018 —Domestic abuse battery, simple strangle domestic abuse battery strangulation, sexual battery, attempted 1st degree rape;

October 2020 — Obscenity, domestic abuse battery, contempt;

June 2021 —Obscenity, domestic abuse battery, possession CDS II, contempt six counts;

September 2021 — Aggravated battery domestic abuse, false imprisonment armed with dangerous weapon;

November 2022 — Aggravated assault domestic battery, criminal damage.

Hanks was charged with a probation violation on February 2019, indicating a prior offense not in records immediately available.

She allegedly violated again in June and was charged with contempt.

She had a probation violation alleged again in November 2020 and a paraphernalia charge the following June.

Contempt charges were filed in September 2022 and January 2023 bookings.
