Most never called them by their given names – Edward and Robert – but knew them just the same. (A nod to David Allen Coe.) And surely the two will be among the easiest decisions the Bolton High Hall of Fame Selection Committee will ever make.
The late Edward Gordon “Ned” Randolph Jr., class of 1960, and the late Robert Beall “Buddy” Tudor Jr., class of 1953, are among six to be inducted next month.
Randolph was Alexandria mayor 20 years and before that a state representative, then a state senator.
His tenure as mayor ended what can be kindly described as a non-productive period at City Hall and stretched through the England Air Base conversion and downtown redevelopment.
Randolph retired in 2006 and passed away at 74 in 2016.
Tudor, after a standout academic and athletic career at LSU, joined the family construction business, expanding its horizons while changing that of Alexandria-Pineville with countless enduring projects.
Saddled with illness for a decade before his death, also at 74, in 2010, Tudor was involved in governmental and civic affairs.
They will be inducted at an April 24 banquet and ceremony in downtown Alexandria. Tickets are available through the Alumni Association website.
Randolph, a Princeton graduate who earned his law degree at Tulane, opened his practice in Alexandria following military service and was elected to the Louisiana House in 1972.
Enduring achievements of his legislative years are the state public meetings and public records laws which he co-authored.
Tudor, named a Distinguished Military Graduate at LSU, joined the family firm after military service, eventually leading it into enterprises near and far.
He was active in a host of professional and civic organizations and was first chairman of the Rapides Area Planning Commission.
