“Bill” Bowdon served his country for more than 30 years, then turned his talents toward LSU.
Now the attention is on him as he and five others join Bolton High School’s Hall of Fame next month.
Marines Aviator Major General William G. Bowdon III (if the name seems familiar to senior readers it’s because his grandfather and father were Alexandria mayors) retired as commanding general of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, the last of many Corps leadership assignments.
His career including piloting Skyhawks, Phantoms and Hornets as he rose through the ranks and squadrons command.
After retiring Bowdon became president/CEO of the LSU Foundation, leading its Forever LSU capital campaign to accruing almost $800 million in contributions and gifts.
A host of medals and citations attest to his military accomplishments. He also is a member of the LSU Alumni Hall of Distinction.
Tickets for the April 24 induction dinner and program are still available through the alumni association’s web site.
