As the school year kicks off, the Pineville Police Department wants to remind parents and guardians NOT to stop on Edgewood Drive or in the roundabout in front of the school while waiting to pick up students. With DOTD working on Hwy 165, PPD is expecting to see an influx of traffic on Edgewood Drive. The goal is to keep the flow of traffic moving to prevent traffic jams.
Stopping in these areas creates unnecessary traffic backups and blocks the flow of traffic for everyone.
Instead, use a nearby parking lot to wait until it’s safe to fully enter the school property without obstructing the road.
Last year, this was a major issue that improved once addressed but PPD wants to start strong this year. Be courteous, check all surroundings, and if no one’s in front but traffic is backing up behind, it might be time to reassess.
PPD recommends arriving 5 to 10 minutes after the dismissal bell often means a quicker, smoother pickup and way less time spent stuck in traffic.
PPD thanks the public for its cooperation in keeping things safe and flowing for everyone.
