
Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were contacted by Lecompte Police Department in reference to a burglary that had taken place at a pharmacy in Lecompte on August 12, 2024. Lecompte PD worked the initial call and advised a subject had entered the pharmacy by removing the glass from the front door.
Security video from the pharmacy showed that at approximately 2:30am, a male subject entered the pharmacy through the broken door. The suspect was approximately 6’ tall, wearing glasses, a black hooded sweatshirt, black facemask, black shorts over black tights, and black shoes. From the video evidence, the subject can been seen taking bottles of medications from the shelves and placing them in a black garbage bag.
During the course of their investigation, Sheriff’s detectives were contacted by multiple other agencies in reference to burglaries in their jurisdiction that appeared to be similar to this one.
On May 7, a traffic stop was conducted by Officers with the Jonesville Police Department minutes after an attempted burglary of a pharmacy in that area. Information gained in this stop assisted law enforcement with the development of a suspect.
As their investigation continued to develop, detectives, deputies, and officers from Oakdale Police Department, Jonesville Police Department, Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office, Pine Prairie Police Department, Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lecompte Police Department, and Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office worked together comparing photographs, videos, and intelligence on their similar investigations. Soon after, a suspect was identified as Kevin Dejuan McKinney, 41 of Colfax, LA. Arrest warrants were obtained for McKinney.
On June 3, McKinney was located and arrested on active warrants from Jonesville Police Department and RPSO. McKinney remains in custody at the time of this release being held on a $41,000 bond.
