Cortavius Hicks has reached a level of dubious distinction, accumulating $1 million or more bond setting in a still-young alleged crime life.
Hicks, 24, was in parish jail Wednesday with his bail set at $570,500 for alleged attempted first-degree murder and a number of alleged drug-related felonies.
Police assert Hicks walked up to a man sitting outside at a Pineville apartment cluster about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and opened fire, inflicting several non-lethal injuries, then fleeing.
Hicks was located later in the day at another Pineville location.
In February last year police alleged Hicks was successful in a murder attempt, stabbing and killing Michael Phelps Jr., 29, a Vicksburg, MS man working at the time at an Alexandria restaurant.
That assault happened about 3:30 a.m. on Queen’s Court. In addition to a second-degree murder count, Hicks was charged with felony flight and several traffic counts.
Bail was set at $527,000. Arrested Feb. 8, he bonded out on Oct. 2, ironically a year before the current case unfolded.
Earliest on-line available records involving Hicks show his arrest in November 2018 on firearms and traffic charges. He was 19.
Hicks was also jailed in Rapides in January and June 2019.
His bail settings to date total $1,097,020.
