Rapides Parish School Board: Spotlight

The Rapides Parish School Board’s monthly board meeting was held on May 2 and many outstanding faculty and students were honored for some amazing achievements during the Superintendent’s Report. Some of those recognitions include:
 
1. Tracy Vorrice, Matin Park Elementary Principal, was named a 2024 Principal of the Year Semifinalist by LDOE.
 
2. Camryn L. and Marley S competed in a State Historical Paper Competition and will represent Rapides Parish for nationals in Washington D.C. this summer.
 
3. Oak Hill Lady Rams Basketball Team became state champions!!
 
4. Plainview’s Film students and Coach Howard won best drama for “Cherrwinchice” at an in-person film festival.
 
5. Rapides Parish’s Jobs for America’s Graduates Programs are among the best in the state, with three State Middle School Offices from Rapides Parish. Miss JAG-LA Middle School Student is Ellalaijah T from Arthur F. Smith Middle.
 
6. Elizabeth Berry and Jennifer Cifelli are Early Childhood Teacher of the Year Finalists and Jamie Martin is an Early Childhood Director of the Year Finalist, nominated by LDOE.
 
7. Multiple students in grades 3rd – 6th won a Narrative Writing Contest in an effort to increase the importance of reading and writing.
 
8. Tioga Lady Indians Softball Team was honored as State Runner-Ups!
 
9. Adrianne Grimsal, Amanda Legendre, and Christopher Vezinat were honored as the 2024 Oustanding Support Employees of the Year.
 
10. Buckeye High’s Madison Price was honored as the Student Board Guest of the Month.
