ASH-Pineville quarterfinal series tops local baseball playoff slate

The local big-school baseball heavyweights, ASH and Pineville, square off in a three-game LHSAA Selection Division I quarterfinal series beginning Thursday evening.

Six Rapides Parish teams are alive in postseason. Four play each other. Along with ASH-Pineville, third-seeded Grace Christian meets No. 6 Oak Hill in a single-elimination Select Division V contest Friday evening at 6:30 at Merrill Brinkman Field in England Air Park.

ASH, the third seed in Division I, hosts Pineville. Game 1 of the series is Thursday at 7, followed by the second game Friday at 7. If necessary, Game 3 goes off at 1 on Saturday afternoon.

The other two remaining parish teams are Alexandria Country Day and Menard, both on the road playing the No. 2 seeds in their divisions.

Menard has a three-game series at Pope John Paul II beginning Thursday at 6, with Game 2 Friday at 6 and a third game at noon Saturday if needed in Division III.
